It was a perfect sunny day when we visited Barnard. The town center sits on a bend in the road with a Silver Lake on one side of the road and a general store on the other. We bought some sandwiches and using our senior passes went over to Silver Lake State Park to eat our impromptu picnic. The park and beach are quite lovely and many folks were beating the heat that day.

Springfield was once a thriving manufacturing town. Wikipedia notes that their tool and dye making and other manufacturing industries made them the seventh most desirable bombing target in WWII. Thank goodness that never took place.

Since the decline and fall of manufacturing, not only in Springfield but across America, Springfield has struggled to survive and reinvent itself. From the looks of things those efforts seem to be paying off. The town is quite nice and filled with amenities and history.

In the recent past, there has been some concern about gang activity in Springfield which actually made Robyn a bit reluctant to visit. But if you try to find any news stories about that now I don’t think you’ll be successful. Over and done with I guess. That’s how we roll up here in the Green Mountains.
