After a quick trip to the Rutland Farmer’s Market we proceeded on Route 4 East to Mendon. Previous visits to Mendon have often meant breakfast at Sugar & Spice and this day was no exception. We devoured a good old-fashioned breakfast of eggs, bacon, home fries, hash and toast and split a waffle in the bargain. Since Sugar & Spice is also a working sugar house it was no surprise to see on the menu that fake maple syrup was available for an extra charge. That’s the way it should be everywhere.
I also love another part of Mendon which I call Wheelerville even though it’s really just Wheelerville Road. The peace and quiet of the surrounding forests is something that my good friend Chris and I have experienced pretty much in all seasons. Lots of undisturbed old growth forest that has reclaimed farms and other dwellings over the years. It was a great way to start a day of our 251 adventure that was blessed with good weather.
