Welcome Sign, Killington

It’s all about the skiing in Killington and and food, entertainment and lodging establishments that are supported by Vermonters’ favorite winter sport. That was very much in evidence when we visited as we observed many diehard skiers plummeting down the last vestiges of snow on a day when temperatures were hovering near 90 degrees F all day. From the nearly empty parking lot at the base lodge you could also see several people enjoying the mountain biking trails that crisscross the slopes. On the day we there the famous ski area was also the starting point for the Killington Stage Race for bicycles, something we ran into all day as we traveled both Route 4 and Route 100 on our roundabout journey to Woodstock.

Driving up the access road we viewed a strange abandoned landscape and vowed we would visit again during the ski season to see what it’s like when the joint is jumpin’.
