Welcome to our Explorations

Hello!

Last year we both got to thinking about how we get to the end of summer and we’ve done absolutely nothing but hang around the homestead. Not that there’s anything wrong with beautiful “downtown” Danby where we live with Jasper the cat. But we both love Vermont so much we thought that after all these years living here we ought to get better acquainted with this beautiful state and all it has to offer. We, like most any Vermonter you speak to, count ourselves especially fortunate to live here all year round (although there are times in winter when we question that idea.)

So, last summer 2014 we started traveling around Vermont on the weekends to festivals, tag sales, anything with an attraction to make a day of it and see Vermont. This year we decided to formalize those activities by joining the 251 Club. We got our “kit” in the mail last week. It’s a fun organization and there are no actual rules, which is very Vermont.

Saturday June 6th we got started on our project at the town-wide tag sale in Poultney and you’ll be reading about that in the next post. Mark: One question I will be addressing for each town we visit is “could I live there?” I will have to exclude whether or not high speed internet is available (a must for me) and concentrate on other livability factors. Robyn: I will want to explore whether there are art-related interests, and does it just “feel right” in terms of its intrinsic energy.

We’ll also be sharing the occasional restaurant and creemee stand reviews as well. Our observations will be strictly ours. We’ll include some helpful links to the town’s Chamber of Commerce and/or Historical Society/other websites to provide some hard data on each town. That way, we can get right to the personal experience stuff.

We hope you enjoy it. If you live in Vermont you may want to begin a 251 journey of your own. If you don’t, for heaven’s sake come visit the Green Mountain State. We’d love to see you.

All the best,

Mark & Robyn
